One of the challenges I have experienced while being in BSL has been the challenge of giving up my personal freedoms that I have had the past few years while living on my own. It has been challenging to learn how to again live under an assigned schedule, under rules I don’t find necessary and to be dependent on others for provisions such as rides. Never really thinking about this concept before coming to BSL, the challenge was in a way unexpected. This unanticipated challenge has however helped me develop a greater patience in people and has also helped me understand that I am not always going to be in control of situations, as much as I may desire it. It has challenged my self-control in adapting to situations and rules in which I thought would be very difficult for me to deal with. The challenge has also brought me to see the patience others may have in me as I grow dependent on them for their help while living in an unfamiliar place. I hope to continue to work on being patient in following rules and instructions without complaining, not only to use this experience to grow me in how I interact with others but to also encourage a peaceful setting during the weeks we’re down here. With this practice in testing my patience and self-control, I believe the experience will help me as I move on later into the working-world when dealing with jobs, co-workers and other possible career frustrations and difficulties.
